about

After over a decade of wanting to make electronic music, I began in earnest in 2001. By 2002 the moments of clarity began happening. These first sketches started to take shape into something, I wasn’t sure what. I had so many disparate musical ideas ready to try and find a voice for that the initial tracks were hard to pin down. Industrial/soundtrack/electronica - looking back I don’t know what I was trying to make, and in some ways it’s refreshing to see how I was creating vignettes then and what I still hold onto today.

I chose the name endmusik for my musical work, not knowing if it was a band name, a production name, a brand. It was based on the idea of music from the end of a film, since so much of what I wanted to do was based on music for visuals - imaginary or real.

By the beginning of 2003 I had gotten several demos written but wanted to really focus on speeding up my writing decision process, so I went through an exercise of writing a song a day - that ended up becoming what is now the first Etherine album. It wasn’t intended to be a single project per se though, the band name was added on after the fact for the ultimate release on Magnatune.com. That process of compiling led to me diverting different musical ideas into different projects.

2003 saw the beginnings of Zerodivided, Sythilix, Darkfilter, IVILION, Etherine, and by the end of the year The Wretch would form out of the ashes of a short lived project called Terrorsect.

These demos represent the most complete ideas from the time before the names, when I was still finding my voice (or voices). Over the rest of 2021, I will be completing a series of releases from projects that never quite got the full glossy package from the early years. This represents the absolute beginning. Thank you for listening!
